Vehicle details

Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

270 Offy, torsion bar suspension, Halibrand 4 wheel disc brakes, Hilborn Travers injection, Joe Hunt magneto, disc front wheels, kidney bean rears, chromed suspension and brake discs. Raced for sixteen years, from 1962 to 1977 by various drivers in CRA competition and 1965 CRA Champ. Restored by builder Bruce Bromme in the early 90s. A creditable but aged cosmetic restoration. Engine old, dusty and dry. Paint scraped and chipped at openings. More show than go, but not ready for either. No Reserve.

Market commentary

Andy Gump earned its name from its distinctive oval air intake which recalled the comic strip characters mouth and chin. A feature of LA sprint car races, its history contributes to the price it brought today, but probably not quite as much as the buyer might hope. A handsome Sprinter, but an expensive one.
