Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

RHD. V12 powered Cunningham team car, 1961 Le Mans driven by McLaren Hansgen, DNF. Later raced in the US and returned to Maserati at the end of the 61 season. Acquired by Peter Kaus in 1968, restored by Docking Spitzley in the UK with modified Maserati 2.4 liter marine 4 cylinder. Very unusual, with a great history. Typically tired Rosso et Bianco museum display condition in need of careful attention before being raced. Peter Kaus Rosso et Bianco collection.

Market commentary

After the ex Cunningham Tipo 151 rocketed through Bonhams estimate this ex Cunningham mid engined Birdcage performed much more reasonably. With a V12 in it the new owner will have a showpiece both on the concours field and, particularly, on the race track. Not cheap, but a standout wherever it appears.
