Equipment

RHD. The first mid engined Ferrari sports prototype. 1961 Targa Florio (von Trips Gendebien) and 1962 Nurburgring 1000km (Hill Gendebien) winner. First raced as a 2.4 liter, acquiring the first Ferrari rear spoiler as a result of instability at speed in testing. Twice at Le Mans, Sebring and Nurburgring plus other races. 2 liter engine fitted in December 1962 along with the current body. Hillclimbed by Eduardo Lualdi Gabardi for Scuderia SantAmbroeus, then by Leonardo Terra. Stored from 1964 to 2002 and returned to usable condition for the present owner. Cavallino Classic winner in 2003; Shell Historic and Monterey Historic competitor. Just like an old race car should be, a bit aged and used but well preserved and historic race ready.

Market commentary

Its unfortunate this car didnt find a new home. Its a very important piece of Ferrari history even in its current second generation form. The Euro bid seems like its high enough for a Dino; the dollar bid should have seen it loose and selling (but of course Sothebys doesnt use that terminology) long before. On site results provided by Marcel Massini.
