Market commentary
Bizarre fishmouthed, tail finned styling and mediocre performance from its 2.5 liter 140hp V8 dont endear SP250s to many people, but they appeal to some and are an intriguing sidebar in British sports car history. Compare it with the slightly earlier, but comparably anemic, 3.2 liter 150hp V8 powered BMW 507 to observe the effect of handsome styling on value. 507s in this condition are worth $250,000. Of course, there are only 1 of them for every 10 SP250s, but that doesnt come close to accounting for the value difference. The work that went into this example probably ensures the new owner got a decent car at a very fair price, and far less than the restorers investment.
