Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

One of 7 interim berlinettas between TdF and production SWBs. Outside plug engine. Originally delivered to Jo Schlesser, factory updated with disc brakes after an off road experience in 59 TdF. Much successful racing followed. Current owner Bernard Consten for the last 26 years. 2K km since engine overhaul, restoration and repaint in 97 98, original interior. Halda rally equipment, 15 chrome Borranis. Very clean and fast.

Market commentary

With SWBs routinely bringing $1 million its surprising that this equally attractive LWB car with its exceptional history and impeccable presentation didnt see more interest. The Big Ferrari market is fickle and very much subject to fashion, leaving important but little known examples like this out of the limelight even in the knowledgeable Gstaad crowd. This should be a million dollar car and its understandable that Mr. Consten declined to accept a $170K haircut. Reported sold several weeks after the auction for $980,000.
