Vehicle details

Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

4 speed, scruffy old Becker Europa radio, SW fuel gauge added. Water stained top liner, cracked steering wheel, pitted interior chrome, brightly varnished interior wood. Thick but attractive repaint. Exterior chrome trim poorly fitted and not fluid to body. Old undercoat on chassis. Good top. A scary, superficial auction car.

Market commentary

This Mercedes crossed the block as 210 and failed to sell at a reported bid of $50,000, and for ample reason. Not only is it a slow, boring 220, it is a tired, neglected and mistreated 220. No one could be more surprised than me, then, when it crossed the block on Saturday and sold for this amount. It shouldnt have brought over $25,000.
