Equipment
RHD. Reputedly the first 200S built, factory raced in 55 at Naples and MM (probably Bellucci). Upgraded to 200SI specs in 56 when CofO was issued, probably raced by Behra in Caracas then sold. Gap in history until the early 70s, in Japan since 79. Very original, still with 2 liter engine (most were punched out to 2.5 liters). Good older restoration to sound but not show condition and now showing a patina of its own, neat and tidy.
Market commentary
An extremely desirable Maserati race car, with a good history which will be made better by further research to pin it down with more particularity. Bought for a very fair price by an astute German Maserati collector in whose hands it can be expected shortly to appear in European events. My choice for the Monterey auctions best potential MM Retro ride.
