Equipment
Jaeger tach redlined at 8,600 rpm; other gauges are Maserati. Stirling Mosss 1956 Monaco GP winner using chassis 2522, 2nd at Buenos Aires, 3rd in Belgium, all with Moss driving. Later rebuilt as 2523, used to test the Maserati V-12, then rebuilt again as 2526 and sold in 1958. Pretty much exactly as it left the Maserati factory, carefully maintained in historic race-ready condition by Peter Heuberger, a veteran of all five Monaco Historiques. Many original and service parts are included with the lot, to be picked up F.O.B. Switzerland.
Condition
A well-used historic racer in clean, orderly and probably race-ready condition.
Market commentary
Heuberger took a few laps of the Fiorano circuit Saturday afternoon, to the delight of onlookers but without having the desired effect on the bidders. Generally agreed to be one of the best handling, most responsive of the front-engined GP cars, that and a great history weren''''''''t enough to bring out enough bidders'''''''' interest to reach the seller''''''''s expectations. It''''''''s at least a $2 million car, and a strong case can be made that it wouldn''''''''t be overpriced at RM''''''''s low estimate.
