Equipment
3442cc/210hp, 4-speed, red wire wheels, wide whitewalls, wing mirrors, driving lights.
Condition
#4 Fair
Has visible flaws to the naked eye. Runs fine, but could use mechanical or cosmetic attention.
Previously owned and raced by Briggs Cunningham and Denise McCluggage, and McCluggage took her first professional victory in this car. In original, as-raced condition. The paint is faded and chipped everywhere. The mechanicals are aged but functional, and the interior is heavily worn with ancient-looking and ripped leather. A fantastic preservation car with huge names in vintage racing.
Market commentary
The XK140 is a bit down the list in the XK series in terms of reliability. It's also not particularly associated with motorsports compared to the XK120 that came before it, especially the drophead body style. But this one has some cool history, and its originality is enticing. It nevertheless rolled across the block to little fanfare. Selling at no reserve here for well under half its low estimate and well under a third of the $300K no-sale high bid it reportedly got at Auburn three years ago. In terms of price guide values it's essentially #3 money paid for a #4 car, but the premium seems way too light for the names attached to it.
