Equipment
Thought by some, including the owner, to be the 300SL Roadster prototype, built up from 300SL race car 00009 52. Clearly a one off with a M B Racing Department VIN and many unique features but the subject of controversy among M B experts. Expertly restored by Scott Grundfor and persuasively documented. History known from about 1965 when M B gave it its ID number and sold it to Karl Jurgen Britsche in Hamburg.
Market commentary
Offered by Christies here in 2000 where a long saleroom notice stifled interest but reportedly bid to $820,000. More realistically priced here, but still unsuccessful in finding a new home. Working a post block deal but not closed yet.
