Equipment
Becker Mexico AM/FM, luggage, chrome Rudge centerlock wheels, Michelin blackwall tires, tilt steering wheel hub, Nardi wood-rim steering wheel, belly pans, extra leather-covered seat cushions (as original).
Condition
#3 Good
Runs and drives well. Flaws not noticeable to passersby. Most common condition.
Sound older repaint over old paint and a few chips. Good interior and chrome. Chassis and engine compartment are orderly while showing use and age. Few owners from new, the consignor since 1997, lovingly maintained and an exceptional example.
Market commentary
A particularly reassuring Gullwing, sympathetically and consistently maintained with the things it needed to keep it in good cess. The Portola bidders caught the vibe and brought it home with a seriously premium price that will be hard to maintain, but in the meantime it's a Gullwing to be proud to own, the confluence of collectors' passion for largely original cars and for 300SLs. Even the most generous 'investment advisor', though, would find it hard to endorse this price.
