Equipment
RHD. Chrome spoke wire wheels, full-width windscreen, drivers head fairing.
Condition
One of the second series of DB3S built and raced initially by The Kangaroo Stable at the Hyeres 12 Hours in May 1955, then sold to Rod Carveth in California. Engine's identity is unclear but probably from DB3S VB6K 115; body is from DB3S112 Excellent paint and upholstery. Restored better than new with a few subsequent miles.
Market commentary
Body designed by Frank Feeley with abundant cues from period Bertone bodies, this is one of the most beautiful sports racers from a period when beautiful cars reigned supreme. It is described as the least crashed of the DB3S customer cars, a dubious but still notable distinction, and a rare and distinctive example of a legendary period. Less than a C-type, much less than a D-type and pennies (well, maybe quarters) on the Ferrari dollar, it fits neatly into a value progression with this result.
