Equipment
331cid/235hp FirePower Hemi, PowerFlite automatic, chrome wire wheels, bench seat, column shift, pushbutton radio, power windows.
Condition
One of three limited series of Ghia/Chrysler "Idea Cars." Unclear early history, but went to Argentina at some point, but came to the U.S. in the 19902. Restored in the 2000s and shown at Pebble Beach in 2012. Lovely chrome, but the paint is showing its age a bit with light detail scratching, a general loss of shine, and a couple of touch ups behind the passenger’s door. The interior is perfect and looks like it has had people in it just a handful of times. A mostly stunning example of the fruitful collaboration between Ghia and Chrysler in the 1950s.
Market commentary
With both Chrysler's centenary and the cars of Virgil Exner serving as featured classes at this year's Pebble Beach Concours, there was probably no better place to sell a coachbuilt Chrysler with Exner connections than right here. It sold at the high end of its estimate range, and the consignor can't have been hoping for a much better result.
