Equipment
RHD. Dual wraparound Plexiglas shields, hard passengers tonneau, drivers head fairing, Grey painted outside laced wire wheels. Good paint and upholstery. Tidy matte Black painted chassis. Restored to be driven, not shown. Built as 0308M, raced by Antoine Causse including 1953 Tour de France Auto class win, then rebodied with this spider coachwork attributed to Dino Ferrari, believed to be the first Scaglietti bodied Ferrari, and renumbered by Ferrari for Porfirio Rubirosa. Sold by Chinetti to Danny Collins in Colorado. Engine swapped with 225S 0168ED (Lot 529 today) by Jack Reuter in the 60s and eventually owned by Bernard Nevoral for 20+ years. Restored again in 2005 before running the MM Retro and essentially unused since.
Market commentary
With a worthwhile race history and eligible for just about anything a new owner could want to do this is a very practical and desirable Ferrari. The rebody history adds to its value because of what it represents. The reported high bid is reasonable for its presentation, but so is the sellers determination to look for a little bit more. It would probably be worth the low estimate if it were reunited with its engine.
