Vehicle details

Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

Flathead 4 cylinder, 3 speed, heater, no radio. Sears Catalog number 213. Quickly masked repaint, good new interior. Otherwise a tired, largely original car with some touch up underhood. Sound but unimpressive. Grille bars painted with aluminum paint. Smoky Mountain Museum. No Reserve.

Market commentary

This is a prime example of the fact that rarity does not translate into value. Offered by Sears, the Allstates sole claim to fame is its innovative paper based interior fabric. Other than that it was simple basic transportation at a time when Americans wanted big cars, bigger engines and plenty of glitz. One of about 2,300 built, a vehicle of compelling indifference for which an ample price was paid.
