Vehicle details

Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

RHD. Silver wire wheels, single aeroscroon, old Pyrene fire extinguisher. Restored by Walter Hill to look like 1951 Le Mans winning XKC 003 (long since dismantled by Jaguar). Not a glitzy show car but an older restoration to like new condition with subsequent use. US race history with Robert McManus, Chuck Hassan, Riddelle Gregory (Mastens younger brother) and Tom Groskritz.

Market commentary

In this day and age its a little hard to imagine restoring a C type to look like anything other than what it once was, particularly when it has US race history. However, that didnt concern Walter Hill, who wanted to see and drive a 51 Le Mans spec C type and had the time and means to make his dream come true. The mixed history presentation apparently concerned the Pebble Beach bidders.
