Equipment
Modern gauges. Built with removable hardtop with gullwing style side windows. Rides on BMW 328 style wheels but has two of the original unique mag wheels with it. No Reserve.
Condition
The third of three Glockler-Porsches built, this one based on a cabriolet floor pan with conventional rear engine location. Raced in Switzerland and Germany then sold to Max Hoffman who had Johnny von Neuman drive it in the May 1953 Bridgehampton road races. Eventually made its way to Denver where the present owner found it partially restored in 2000. Restored by Tempero in New Zealand with excellent paint and assembly, better than new.
Market commentary
Offered at Gooding & Company''s Palm Beach auction in January 2006, then at Worldwide''s Hilton Head auction. Finally brought here at No Reserve and sold for an appropriate price. It is an absolutely unique car with significant racing history (Helm Glockler won the 1952 German championship with it) and important connection with Max Hoffman and John von Neuman in the U.S. The buyer got full value for money, and a spectacular restoration on top of that.
