Equipment
1250/70hp, Shorrock supercharger, 4-speed, painted wire wheels, Dunlop tires, Lucas driving light, rear-mounted spare, tools.
Condition
Phil Hill’s first race car, in which he won his first race. Since restored in the UK. Beautiful paint, brightwork, wheels, and chassis. Lightly wrinkled leather on the driver's side. All clean and fresh. Not overdone, but also almost too clean to vintage race.
Market commentary
The little T-Series MG launched many a postwar American racing career, but few had a career as brilliant as Phil Hill, America's first Le Mans winner and Formula One World Champ. Hill later said of the TC that "I learned everything from it, really. I mean, all my early days of really driving a car that I knew was capable of being driven." Given the history, the top notch quality of the restoration and the added performance from the blower, the car seems like a good value at this price. Especially when you compare it to Carroll Shelby's first race-winning car, which also happens to be an MG TC, that sold for a whopping $544,500 in Scottsdale eight years ago.
