Equipment
Discovered in Argentina by Ben Moser in 81, sold to Hayashi who began the restoration including having Stephen Griswold remake the front half of the chassis which had been modified for an American V8. Later sold to the consignor who commissioned Pierre de Siebenthal to continue the restoration which was completed in 99. Appears to be in like new condition (i.e., not perfectly manicured) and historic race ready. No racing history known.
Market commentary
$440,500. Thats what Christies got for Bob Sutherlands ex Bira 4 CLT 48 (1598) and it went to Gregor Fisken who seems to have shifted it since, one would think at a profit. 1598 had a racing history (which 1600 doesnt), even if it was inferred, but it doesnt seem like it was in as good condition. All of them have been chopped, parted out and generally messed about over the years. Conclusion: this car could have brought another $20 30,000, but no more than that.
