Equipment
The first 8CL (2,981cc, dual Roots blowers and 52 DCO Webers), raced at Indy in 1940 by Raul Riganti but crashed heavily on lap 24. Repaired in Argenti and sold to Pascual Puoppolo in 1946. One significant win with Giuseppe Fari at Mar de Plata in February 1948. Purchased by Hayashi in the 80s, recently to the present owner with mechanical preparation by Phil Reilly and some U.S. historic racing since. Very sympathetically prepared with tasty pati, clean and tidy.
Market commentary
This is a pretty spectacular car, particularly under the hood with its abundant engine details. The price is also pretty spectacular for a car with no particularly important racing history and only one appearance with a me driver. In dollars this result (+1,825,000) would be a better value at an historic exchange rate than it is today and the seller should be particularly happy at the end of the day.
