Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

Successfully raced in 1937 38 by Luigi Villoresi, owned by Giovanni Rocco who also owned 1540. Rebuilt postwar with solid front axle, Bugatti rear axle and brakes and a new chassis after being crashed in 1939, passing through Jo Siffert and Pierre Bardinons hands and eventually getting a 1939 style body by Fantuzzi. Shows historic racing use and race ready for more.

Market commentary

The postwar history of this car leaves some question as to the appropriateness of its current 1939 style body. Uncertain bidders keep their paddles on their chairs. There is little 1541 about this car any more except the engine (a beautiful piece of supercharged 1493cc piece of work) and gearbox and the history that is attached to them. Neither, however, is there a contender for the cars identity.
