Equipment
RHD. Body number 8. Sage green wire wheels, skirts, Marchal headlights, mesh hood side vents, enclosed rear spare recessed in deck lid on rounded profile tail. A sweet, honest car thats never been completely apart and has a known history from new with factory supercharger installation in the 50s. First owned by Robert Eonnet, eventually to Charles S. Hascall who owned it from 1957 1974 when it was acquired by the Williamsons through Bunny Phillips. Paint dates to the late 70s, probably the upholstery, too, and all of it is deliciously preserved and presented. A delightful automobile with impeccable provence and preservation. Dr. Peter and Susan Williamson collection. No Reserve.
Market commentary
Bidding opened at $5.7 million, immediately bumped to 6.0, then to 6.1, 6.5, 6.6 then $7.0 million on a phone, $7.1 in the room and hammered down at $7.2 million to the phone bidder. The highest price ever for a collector car at auction in the U.S. but also one of the finest collector cars ever offered at auction anywhere, much less in the U.S.
