Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

Skirts, single driving light, dual rear spares. Good older paint, chrome and interior. FIA sticker, FIVA passport and BMW Group Classic certificate. Rallied and raced in the late 30s by Carl Max von und zu Sandizell with support from Ernst Loofs BMW Racing Department. Sold by Sandizells family in 1959 and eventually restored for Oscar Davis by Chris Leydon. Brake fluid drip and curdled paint on frame but overall clean and attractive.

Market commentary

Long overshadowed by other marques and models, the BMW 328 is coming into its own recently as this and other recent sales demonstrate. Not so long ago they were $200,000 cars. Now theyre $600,000 cars, especially with pedigree, provence and race history like this.
