Equipment
RHD. Raced when new by RenT Le BFgue in France including the 1936 GP A.C.F. and the Spa 24 Hours with Jean Danne where it earned 2nd overall, then in Britain with the Schell familys Ecurie Bleue where Le BFgue set the lap record in the Tourist Trophy and other races. Tested by The Motor in 1936. Later owned by Comte Merlin and finished 5th at Pau in 1937 driven by Raph (Marquis Raphadl BTthenod de las Casas). Rebodied in 1937 as a cabriolet by Merlin and in 1952 by Molla for Maurice Martin with its current Duralinox fastback coupe envelope body. Engine replaced with present 235 block in 1959 and remains in that configuration, origil as in 59, needing pretty much everything but also very swoopy and looking a lot like a Pegaso of that era. A very cool car with lots of history.
Market commentary
It is impossible to argue with the UK+ bid here or with Christies low estimate for a car of this history and presence although it is unlikely to find a US bidder willing to come up with comparable dollars. It is eligible for just about anything the owner wants to do with it and its appearance will make it a welcome participant. Even among great marques with comparable history and heritage this Delahaye will stand out. It will be an astute acquisition.
