Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

Dual sidemounts, chrome wire wheels, aluminum luggage rack, rumble seat, dual remote spotlights, Pilot Rays, steering column mounted radio controls. Original body chassis combination with formerly supercharged engine from chassis 2556 with blower removed during this cars years in Spain (1941 1990) and restored in Spain sometime after 1976. Recently with Al Webster, Bob Gottlieb and Piers MacDonald. Repainted by Stone Barn subsequent to 2000. Engine rebuilt some time after 1990 and transmission in 2001, both by Brian Joseph. Brakes, top and wheels also redone since 2000. In nearly like new condition although the chassis shows the age of its restoration. Paint, interior and chrome are excellent.

Market commentary

RM sold a similar Murphy Convertible Coupe for $671,000 sixteen months ago at Amelia Island and it won its class the next day at the Concours. The difference Sixteen months and J527 was originally supercharged (although if the $266,500 paid for an SJ supercharger at Christies in Tarrytown in 1998 is any indication of the cost of re supercharging its going to be very a expensive proposition to return it to its original configuration!)
