Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

Wide whitewalls, dual remote spotlights, dual sidemounts. First owned by J.Paul Getty, later given to a nephew. Restored by Ron Murray in the mid 90s then sold to Marvin Tamaroff. CCCA Grand Classic Premier winner in 2002 and still in concours condition with little or no subsequent use. No Reserve. Otis Chandler Collection.

Market commentary

Mechanically outstanding, the Marmon Sixteens design by Walter Dorwin Teague (or his son, Richard, depending upon whom you believe) is a classic of Machine Age design. Underappreciated by collectors, the price paid here is appropriate in the market but the buyer got a lot more car than the same amount of money would buy elsewhere.
