Equipment
Chrome spoke wire wheels, dual enclosed sidemounts, trunk with fitted luggage. 1931 New York Auto Salon display car bought by Henry Hayden who drove it to California and then to Santa Barbara. Updated with 1932 appearance items at some point then abandoned at a local upholstery shop after WWII. It was bought some say for $25 by Jeremy Hass, a local attorney, at a mechanics lien sale. Don Sears bought it from Hass in 1993 and immediately restored it to 1995 Pebble Beach class winning condition. No Reserve. Otis Chandler Collection.
Market commentary
Ray Dietrichs mastery of the Convertible Victoria is widely regarded but the style was perfected by George Weaver at Waterhouse. The flair, balance and effect of the Waterhouse Convertible Victoria on this Packard 845 chassis is not to be missed, and the bidders in Oxnard obviously felt the same way, blowing the lid off the high estimate in the process. It is expensive, but it also is a singularly attractive, quality automobile.
