Equipment
RHD. Cycle fenders, Bosch headlights, split windscreen, dual rear spares. In the cataloged history for this car it is described as purchased by the Hayashi collection in the late 70s and sold directly to the consignor from Hayashi. That means there is at least one other Ray Jones built SSKL Replica bearing this chassis number out there, having been sold by Poulain and Sothebys in Monaco in 2000 from the Michel Roquet Collection (also the source of the consignors 540K Cabriolet A Lot 216, which is a little more confusing.) This Ray Jones Replica is represented to be done for GM designer Bill Mitchell, who sold it to Bob Morgan who sold it to Richard Payne (the latter two paralleling the ownership chain of the Ecclestone SSK, which is even more confusing.) Converted in the mid 60s with cosmetics dating from then but with little use. Generally sound, recently serviced and reportedly running well. Bernie Ecclestone Collection.
Market commentary
This is an exceptional price for a mixture of S and SS parts on a cut frame with a complete reproduction body. Similar Ray Jones built replicas (and he seems to have built all of them) have sold for less but not recently and inflation and enthusiasm both contribute to positioning this result as within the realm of reason.
