Notes and observations recorded by Hagerty staff.

Equipment

1,620 cu.in. 1,000hp Rolls Royce Merlin V12, 4 speed, Jaguar instruments, huge Lucas headlamps. RHD. Built machine that shook the floor as it drove onto the block to universal applause. Chassis looks like it was painted with a brush but its built like a brick shithouse; fortutely most of the body was polished aluminum.

Market commentary

Car guys love big engines and this is BIG! Recalls the Battle of Britain, unlimited Hydros and the Reno Air Races. A modern Chitty chitty bang bang at 2 10s the cost but with all the irratiol thrills and without the fear of damaging something irreplaceable. Finding a Merlin rebuilder could be a problem, but the full bore 1,000hp is never likely to be unleashed except in a death wish, so a rebuild is a remote consideration.
