Equipment
RHD. Helmet cycle fenders, outside exhaust headpipes, single sidemount spare, top, tonneau cover, radiator stoneguard, folding windscreen. Its hard to imagine any manufacturer in 1930 building such a remarkably low, sleek automobile. Its hood line is just inches above the top of the cycle front fenders and the rest of the car and its Vanden Plas coachwork is equally low, sleek and efficient. Long Australian history where it is known as Scimitar and has represented parts supplier Shannons. Restored in 1993 and driven and exhibited since but still in excellent, usable condition. A choice and important piece of history that is beautiful and trim to boot.
Market commentary
Thats a hard combition to beat, and the bidders here at the Goodwood Festival recognized the opportunity, bidding Scimitar right up to its low estimate. Eight Hundred Large in US$ is a lot of money for an Invicta ... any Invicta ... but four hundred thousand pounds doesnt evidence the same kind of commitment, although it still is a LOT of money. This is a rare and unusual opportunity to acquire the real deal (engine, chassis, body) and the Goodwood bidders didnt want to pass on it. They did well and in the end got full value for money.
