Equipment
No Reserve. RHD. First owned by Earl Mountbatten of Burma. Ace discs, dual sidemounts with black painted wire wheels, spotlights, luggage trunk. Rear seating unfolds into a bed. Documented history including letters from Mountbatten. An older restoration that has sat for years and shows its age but has an impressive history. Includes registration LM 3698 (for Louis Mountbatten and his Mayfair telephone number.)
Market commentary
Sold at Bonhams in London in December 2004 for $135,130 in essentially the same condition as it was offered here, just eight years less old. One can only think that putting his phone number on the registration plate may be related to the occasional bed in the back. Even if it doesnt, the conjecture is the stuff of great discussions on RREC show fields. The estimate range is more appropriate than the price, but that was common among many of the cars in the Aalholm sale.
