Equipment
RHD. Built by dIeteren Freres for Hibbard & Darrin. Sliding divider window, Marchal head lights and driving light, Buff wire wheels, enclosed rear spare. Lavishly appointed inside with drinks cabinet, jump seats, clock, elaborate upholstery and highly polished, figured wood trim. Displayed in the Finelli Museum in Ohio after the origil owners death in 1962. Restored to a high cosmetic standard for the previous owner in 1999 but the chassis was only superficially redone. Opulent and elegant, claims to have an open invitation to Pebble Beach.
Market commentary
Reported sold by RM at Amelia Island in 2006 for $231,000 and in essentially the same condition today, its not hard to understand why the owner preferred to keep it and try again later. As noted then, it needs (expensive) attention to the chassis before being subjected to the scrutiny of the Pebble Beach crowd, much less the judges. The interior, however, is spectacular.
