Equipment
RHD. 2,184cc inline six with special R.F. Oats pushrod ohv head and dual ignition as built to race in the 1929 Tourist Trophy. No racing history known. Now with later Solex carbs (original R.A.G. carbs included). Featured in many books, coachwork believed built by Corsica in the early Thirties. Stored many years and pretty tired but not deserving dilapidated. Complete and hasnt been plundered for autojumble inventory; runs and drives but not road registered. Sound but worn interior; old, chipped paint. Respectable as is but far from show condition.
Market commentary
Boy, was I wrong when I commented that the low estimate of +35,000 ($68,000) plus commission pushes outside the envelope when Christies offered this OM in London in December, but Im glad I was. Someone has paid enough for this old crock (double the high estimate) that it will go to a good home, be well treated, preserved and brought around to educate Philistines like me about the history and heritage of OM. This is auction magic.
