Equipment
Chrome wire wheels, dual chrome wrapped sidemounts, Pilot Rays, dual windshields, luggage trunk, outside exhaust headpipes. 1970 AACA National First Prize winning restoration. Too many colors; even the frame is different (Olive Green). Chipped and worn but not to the extent of the age of the restoration; sound and usable as is. Clean, sharp chassis. impressive for the quality of its restoration and longevity. Known history from new.
Market commentary
This Duesenberg was hammered sold for $1.3 million on the block but was reported by RM Auctions at this transaction value including the commission, which works out to a very peculiar hammer bid. Nevertheless, it is a real, numbers matching, original coachwork, LeBaron dual cowl phaeton Duesenberg J. It could only be better if it had a supercharger, and Duesenberg didnt build them in 1929. The price is reasonable, although it is difficult not to see a re restoration in its future.
