Equipment
452/108hp, single updraft carb, 3-speed with later Hone overdrive, black wire wheels, Lester wide whitewall tires, Spirit of Ecstasy radiator mascot, dual sidemount brackets, lefthand drive Springfield chassis.
Condition
A restored running chassis original done by Frank Cooke with Piccadilly Roadster coachwork from chassis S178ML. In very good older restored condition throughout and seemingly ready for the body of the new owner's choice. Sold with a large assortment of parts.
Market commentary
Sold at Bonhams sale of the Cooke collection in 2006 with the Piccadilly body for $172,000, then sold here three years ago in much the same older restored condition for $220,000. The body has since disappeared (perhaps back to its original chassis which was Cooke-restored with replica London to Edinburgh body?) leaving the new owner plenty of choices. This is an historic Springfield Phantom I, well known among Rolls-Royce enthusiasts, and the new owner will be well-received when it is completed ... or even driving it as is with a fruit crate for a seat.
