Equipment
Rudge wire wheels, aluminum inner and outer wheel discs. Show quality restoration, essentially flawless. One of Cliff Durants 1923 team cars, fourth at Indy driven by Eddie Hearne. Also driven by Earl Cooper, Ralph Hepburn, Harlan Fengler and Pete DePaolo. Claimed to be original frame rails, front and rear axle, engine, transmission, steering, brakes and pedals, which is amazing. Restored for Joe MacPherson by Greg Schneider in centrifugally supercharged 122 cubic inch 1925 Indy configuration. 2006 Pebble Beach class winner. No Reserve.
Market commentary
Started with four phone bidders and only one in the room. Bumped up by $50,000 increments from $900,000. Two phone bidders took over from $1.1 million to this simply mind bending result. This is an awesome car, but it brought an equally awesome price for a rear drive 122. $800 900K would have been reasonable. At double that plus a little this transaction some would say properly positions Harry Millers cars in the overall value continuum where theyve been undervalued for years.
