Good older restoration that shows age and would benefit from some cosmetic attention. First owned by Captain H. Whitworth, then sold to Mr. Alfred I. duPont for his wife Alicia, later by A. Atwater Kent, Jr. Oral history says the order, during Rolls Royces WWI work, was facilitated by King George V in gratitude for the duPont companys supply of powder and munitions. Beautifully restored some years ago by David Hemmings for Richard Solove. The restoration is ageing and hasnt benefited from four years in one of John OQuinns warehouses. John M. OQuinn estate.
Market commentary
Sold by Gooding at Pebble Beach in 2007 from the Solove collection for $1,100,000 during the peak of John OQuinns acquisition binge and offered by RM at Villa dEste where it was a $623,568 no sale (Euros 440,000 against todays Euros 414,100 hammer). An elegant and lavishly equipped Silver Ghost, it is a good value at this price and deserves a good home.
