Equipment
RHD. Chrome bicycle wheels, 498cc single cylinder De Dion Bouton engine. An older restoration to very useable if not entirely consistent specifications. This car was offered without VCC dating, rendering its best and highest use, a Brighton Runner, in doubt although it appears well within the 1904 cutoff. Handsomely, if not entirely consistently, restored and eminently useable.
Market commentary
Bought at a hammer bid 20% over Christies high estimate, an example of an unusual veteran motorcar with links to Benz and de Dion that makes it representative, and evocative, of the time. It should be easily VCC dated to before 1904 and therefore a prized Brighton eligible motor, with a final price that reflects the newfound interest in pioneering motorcars.
