The car in this delivery truck sure looks like the 2020 Toyota Supra

Looks like somebody with access to the 2020 Toyota Supra got a little too excited ahead of the car’s long-awaited debut. Just weeks before its planned unveiling at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, a photo of the new Supra’s racy front end from inside a delivery truck showed up on the SupraMKV forum. And from the looks of it, this will be a sweetly-styled sports car, indeed.

Although quite a bit toned down from the spectacular Toyota FT-1 prototype we saw at the 2014 Detroit auto show, the Supra’s look is surprisingly close to the Toyota racing concept that showed up at Geneva earlier this year. We can clearly see the prominent nose and Toyota badge up front, flanked by elongated headlights housed in vertical scoops at the front of the wheel arches. The lower fascia, divided into three sections with a crisp front spoiler, is familiar from various spy photos. Again, these features are all essentially drawn from the FT-1, but considerably tamed for production.

As has been widely reported for several years, the new Toyota Supra will share its platform with the new BMW Z4 roadster. Offered only as a coupe, the Supra will arrive with a BMW-sourced turbocharged inline six-cylinder making north of 300 horses, which sends power to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. There should also be an electronic limited-slip rear differential, and a four-cylinder Supra down the road is also likely.

We’ll have to wait until the upcoming 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit for the full 360-degree view, but this quick tease for now has us more excited than ever for the Supra to finally land. The Mk IV Supra Turbo was one of the hottest cars in the collector market last year, so we expect some Toyota die-hards are even more hyped.
