When I was in college in the 1960's, I was restoring a 1953 Buick convertible which I had purchased from my sister for $300. A previous owner had customized the vehicle by adding 1956 Chrysler tail-lights, a change I was trying to "un-do". While I was away in school. my brother found a utility pole at 40mph in reverse while joy riding in my Buick in a field behind my parents' house in Fenton, Michigan. The car was still driveable but my parents forced me to "get rid of that eyesore". I had to put it out in front of my parents house, and eventually someone shelled out $50.00 for it. Several years ago, in Lapeer, Michigan a beautifully restored 1953 Buick Skylark sold for $495,000! My brother has since purchased several cast-iron replicas of the Skylark as a feeble attempt to placate me, but the pain remains.
