Howard R 1961 Chevrolet Impala 2dr Convertible

Ticket to Freedom

I turned 16 in 1965 and bought my '61 Impala Convertible for $500.00 from a friend. Paid it out over a few months. Gave me the freedom to be on my own for the most part. I got 5 tickets in the following 6 months and when they suspended my license I rebuilt the engine to a 309 with new cams and pistons, new exhaust, rear end, and some suspension parts. It came with a 3 speed on the column and I changed the clutch and transmission to a 4 speed with Hurst shifter and linkage. My friends and I still talk about those days driving along the beach on Pacific Coast Highway!

In 1970 I bought a 1969 Alfa Romeo Spyder which I still own. It's not my primary car but it has over 300,000 miles on it and it still runs and looks factory fresh.
