The Dixie Coupe

When I was a freshman in High School in 1961, the coolest seniors would have 1949 or 1950 Oldsmobile Coupes with 303's, 324's, or 371 V8's. We called them Dixie coupes and they were so much cooler than a Tri 5 Chevy or a Ford. Today I am in the middle of doing a 50 Coupe, factory stick, later one piece windshield, with a rare 1957 Olds posi rear end. The heads are the famous #10's of 1956 which work on the bored out 50 303 with an Edmunds two/two manifold. Who says you can't go back?

I have tried to find one of these here in Okla since I was a young man and seen my first 50 olds. I finally found a fast back in 1968. Not what I wanted but close. I bought it for $25.00 dollars cause it wouldn't run. Well! took me about an hour to get it started and drove it home. Before returning to Vietnam for my 2nd tour I put the olds in an upholstery shop to have an all white roll l& pleat interior, told the guts I would be back in a year, if I didn't make it the car was theirs. When I got back it was done, the interior was outstanding. The car still had the original baby blue paint that of course needed some attention. It was a fun project and I enjoyed it immensely. Wish I still had it today, or, I could find a two door or even hard top.....LOL
