My grandfather and grandmother had a working farm in Grayson County, Texas in the 40's and 50's. My grandfather bought this 1949 Ford F1 Pickup in nearby Sherman, Texas and used it on the farm. I remember riding in it when I was a child. When my grandfather died, my grandmother kept the truck and later gave it to her son (my dad). Dad took good care of the truck and drove it every so often. Then when my Dad died, the truck was sold without my knowledge. I was so disappointed when I found out. A few years ago I mentioned to my mom how much I missed the old pickup. To my surprise she said, "I think I know where it is."
My husband surprised me by finding it and buying it back. The couple who had bought it, against all odds, had kept it in original condition. Many times these trucks become resto-mods, but thankfully not this one. Ours is totally original with a few safety upgrades. The inside smells like gasoline and vinyl upholstery, just like it did when I was a kid. We have the original title from when my grandfather bought it. The truck is 66 years old! It brings back memories of my grandparents.
Now it's back in the family and living on our ranch in Fredericksburg, Texas - right where it belongs! We drive it to town often and people always ask us about it. We feel so fortunate to own it.
