Steve R 1933 Chevrolet

my 1933 Standard Sports Cp

40+ years of ownership of this 1933 Chevrolet Standard (NOT MERCURY) CC Sports Coupe. I purchased this car from my brothers next door neighbor in 1973 just in time to become a charter member of the San Fernando Vallry region of the VCCA., the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. I am still a member of both. I drove the cars as purchased, ugly blue with green naulgahide seats for about 6 years. It was driven with my 2 young children in the rumble seat and wife of now 50 years + by my side to the grocery store and on tours.

When my son was about 15 he said, "hey dad, why don't you restore the '33?" Shocking having a soon to be driving teenager want it to look nice. At that time I only had mechanical skills, no body work skills. I found a guy that had both and drove the car to his home were he would let me work with him to do the frame off restoration. After about 1 1/2 years the day before Thanksgiving I got the call. "Your car is done". On Thankgiving day ( I was anxious ) I picked it up and drove it home tp my garage. The upholstery was done about 6 months later by a retired GM employee that worked in the pold Van Nuys plant. It still looks wonderful today. By the way ... his cost to do complete inside, rumble seat, roof top, window channels and paint the 4 window trims .......................... $700.

Two years ago I had the car repainted the same original colors it had and had when it came out of the Oakland ,Ca. factory. I am the 3rd owner of the car, the 15 year old will be the 4th. I hope he has to wait a long time.
