I am sure I did not realize on a rainy afternoon on 9-11-1972 that I would be driving away from the dealership in the last new Porsche I would own. The original plan was to special order a car but in stead I fell in love with the last new car Sullivan Motors would receive that year, a Sepia Brown 911E coupe. It was equipped exactly as I would have ordered it but I have to admit Sepia Brown was not my color of choice. For some odd circumstance half a dozen Sepia Brown 911Es ended up at mid west Porsche dealers. Two of my close friends in my PCA region owned identical cars to mine. But as my friends bought newer Porsches I could not part with mine. That isn't to say my 911 didn't receive several other used Porsche garage mates over the years. But as those cars came and went the Sepia car held a special attraction for me. For the first few years it was my only car until guilt over wearing it out made me keep it under cover most of the time. To this day it still has only around 70,000 miles on it. One thing it has never missed is time on the race track every year since new. It has been on every major race track from Road America to Watkins Glen to Mosport with never an incident. After a couple of decades I did succumb to the urge to update the car to be a tribute Carrera RS in every aspect. Two years ago I reached the point that I had polished right through the original paint and had it repainted better than new by my brother in laws body shop. That just served to cement the long term relationship. Now though I get regular offers to buy it there is absolutely no way that I will ever part with this car. I bought the car when I was only 22 years old and the car and I are destined to spend the rest of our lives together.
