AMC...Gone but not Forgotten!

Things started for me back in the summer of 1967. I had just gotten out of the Navy, time to car hunt. Because Viet Nam was kicking into high gear, a number of my friends were either drafted or enlisted. The local "hang out" drive-in wasn't quite as busy but the cars that were there were of the usual fare. Camaros, Mustangs, etc. Then the introduction of the '68 Javelin. I was impressed with the sleek lines & list of options....also liked the idea of having something different from everyone else. Well, I special ordered an SST with all the goodies. Fun car, receiving great reactions from friends & strangers alike.

That was then and this is now. On my "bucket list" was my favorite Javelin, the 1970 Mark Donohue edition. After searching for awhile, found one in Michigan and purchased June 2011. Has high compression 360, MSD ignition & headers but basically stock.

If I thought my first Javelin in 1968 drew attention, this one is ridiculous. People follow me just to ask about it, jump out and take pictures at stop lights, etc. Borderline embarrassing but fun. I guess the best part, and the reason we love these old muscle cars, is the memories that go along with it.....priceless!
