"Most Exciting Car Find"
Just before sunrise, I was lying in bed dreaming of a Saab 900 Turbo Convertible that was tastefully de-badged. As I walked around the car, the color transformed from a brilliant gold to copper, and then magenta, and then a deep plumb purple. As I awoke, the images I had seen in my mind's eye stayed with me.
Just weeks later, I happened upon an advertisement for a Saab 900 Turbo Convertible with a chameleon paint job. Curiosity got the best of me, and I took the 90-mile trip to see the car. It was the exact car from my dream (mind you, not the "car of my dreams" but simply the "car from my dream").
It was in need of care and priced to sell, so I just decided to trust my vision and jump into the project. The car had a blown headgasket and had suffered much weathering of the interior and top. I took care of the mechanical issues and have, to this point, chosen to appreciate the degraded soft parts as an artful expression of the cars character.
While I have had many, many exciting car finds in my days (1953 Sunbeam-Talbot Alpine, 1957 DKW 3=6, 1958 Berkeley SE328, etc), my vision quest of the dream chameleon approaches the realm of "spiritual experience."
