My first duty station in the Navy was Charleston, SC in 1962. My 1959 Chevrolet Biscayne 283 2 bbl with duals sounded good but wasn't as quick as I would have liked. I always liked the look and sound of the 270 hp Corvette with dual quads. Before 'Craigslist', we relied on WOM(word of mouth) from the local Pure station for speed parts. I finally found a complete manifold and carb setup, 2 beautiful Carter WCFB's on the GM manifold. After install, my first night out with it, I received a nice, yellow ticket from the Charleston PD for loud noise. Between the carbs howling and the mufflers rapping, I awoke the neighborhood. The car never did develop into a speedster, but it sure did drink the gas. And never was very reliable. Eventually, after many push starts from my girlfriend, who became my wife, we decided to trade the Biscayne for a 1963 Beetle.
