While I would give my left arm to have some of those first cars, but mine was a little bit different. In 1983 I got my first car, a 1971 Ford Pinto. It had under 100 HP, black vinyl, no radio or anything else. I finally turned it from a rusty blue color to primer, and learned how to keep the massive one BBL carb adjusted. It even protected us as it was totaled in a rear-end accident and failed to explode.
It may not have been much, but it was mine and it represented freedom for my friends and I. It got us around town, to the beach and everywhere in between.
I have owned more fun and certainly more reliable cars over the years, but like a first kiss, that Pinto will always hold a special place in my heart.
