Near Miss

In the early 50's My father had a 1948 Buick special convertible. I was about 14 years old and learning to drive. I would often go on business trips with my father just for the chance to drive. One day we were heading home and I was driving about 80 mph and not realizing how fast I had been going I slowed down to around 50 to make a left turn. On the corner was a small gas station and when I turned the car started to slide sideways right towards the gas pumps. I stepped on the gas and got enough foreward motion to just miss those gas pumps by inches. After gaining control and heading down the road, my dad said calmly, "when you figure out what you did wrong, just let me know" That was a ride I'll never forget
